Zaida Puni and Ashley Rogers dialed up some key performances for Tennesse softball. In the process, the Lady Vols took the first game of the Super Regional matchup with Texas by a final score of 5-2.

Offensively, Puni delivered the biggest blow for Tennessee. She went 2-for-3 in the game with a double and a big 3-run home run with 2 outs in the 2nd inning to put Tennessee up 3-0 early.

Kiki Milloy and Rylie West also added RBIs for the Lady Vols with scoring at a premium for much of the afternoon.

On the mound, Rogers went all 7 innings and was able to keep the Texas bats in check for much of the day. She struck out 8 Longhorns on the afternoon while scattering 2 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks.

Now, Tennessee stands on the precipice of a Super Regional win and can advance to the Women’s College World Series with a win on Saturday.
