Kansas State appeared to be in upset mode early on, and built an 11-point lead in the third quarter. The Wildcats used a balanced approach with nearly identical yards passing and rushing as they tried to knock off TCU, the No. 3 team in the most recently College Football Playoff rankings.

But after a tremendous comeback by TCU, K-State bounced back in overtime and delivered an upset in Texas.

K-State delivered a fierce goal-line stand as TCU opened with the ball in overtime. Back-to-back runs from the 1-yard line were stoned by the Wildcats. A 31-yard field goal was the difference as K-State prevailed 31-28 in the Big 12 Championship Game.

K-State RB Deuce Vaughn had a big game with more than 20 carries for more than 118 rushing yards, including a 44-yarder that went for a touchdown.

K-State took advantage of TCU mistakes, and scored after a missed field goal, and interception, the Wildcats had the recipe for an upset.

It was no surprise that this one was close for those who have watched the rivalry. It’s the 17th time in their history, with the series tied at 8-8. Since beginning Big 12 play in 2012, TCU is 5-6 vs. Kansas State.

And for a team that made its living on comebacks this season, TCU appeared primed to do it again.

The teams met in October and TCU beat Kansas State 38-28, overcoming an 18-point deficit to take over sole possession of first place in the Big 12. That snapped a 3-game losing streak to the Wildcats.

But when TCU needed him most, Max Duggan turned in a heroic drive and scored from 8 yards out, as he showed true heart and grit down the stretch, to tie the game at 28 with 1:51.
