Andrew Mukuba made the play of the day for Texas on Wednesday afternoon against Arizona State.
Mukuba picked off ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt on 3rd and 8 in double overtime to give the Longhorns a College Football Playoff quarterfinal victory. The interception ended a back-and-forth affair that saw both teams on the ropes throughout the 4th quarter and overtime.
Here’s a replay of Mukuba’s big-time play, with ESPN’s Joe Tessitore on the call:
Mukuba is in his first season with Texas after beginning his collegiate career at Clemson. He transferred to Texas after the 2023 season and could be a top draft pick at the safety position in the 2025 NFL Draft. This was his 5th interception of the season so far — a career-high for Mukuba.
Texas will now advance to the Cotton Bowl to face the winner of Ohio State vs. Oregon on Jan. 10. The Longhorns will be hopeful that Mukuba can come up with a big play to possibly swing the result of that contest as well.
