Brett Yormark heard deafening boos Saturday during the Big 12 Championship trophy presentation after Texas knocked off Oklahoma State. The commissioner heard from Texas fans who chanted “SEC! SEC!” as the Longhorns get set to move on from their soon-to-be former conference.
Yorkmark in August didn’t hide any favoritism at Texas Tech’s Red Raider Club kickoff luncheon that he would be cheering for the Red Raiders on the Thanksgiving Week. Of course, the Longhorns prevailed there, too.
The Longhorns and Oklahoma announced 2 summers ago they were leaving, but it was initially anticipated that they could remain through the 2024-25 academic year, coinciding with the league’s current media rights deal. But that changed, and the programs will join the SEC in 2024.
