Byron Murphy II is probably used to the rookie hazing by now, with the NFL regular season being almost over.
But the former Texas star defensive tackle, who now plays for the Seattle Seahawks, had yet another rookie moment recently, and it had absolutely nothing to do with anything involving football. Instead, it was all about a restaurant and a dinner bill that he thought was way more astronomical in price than it already was.
Murphy has 36 tackles, 12 of them solo, and half a sack during what has been a solid rookie season after the Seahawks made him the 16th overall pick in the 2024 draft. But dealing with opposing NFL offenses for the first time in his life is one thing. Dealing with a dinner tab that he was tricked into thinking was an absurd $155,000 is quite another.
The bill wasn’t that, of course. It was “only” $38,000, but the restaurant staff and his Seattle teammates had him going for a while during a recent night out. The best part of the whole thing was Murphy’s first reaction to seeing the apparent bill.
Murphy will probably never forget a lot of moments during his rookie season in Seattle, and this one will likely be near the top of that list.
