Colt McCoy is gearing up for his 13th NFL season and is preparing to play a key role for the Arizona Cardinals. Nevertheless, that has not stopped McCory from already dabbling in a broadcasting career during the offseason.

According to Darren Urban with the Arizona Cardinals team website, McCoy is working with NBC as a color analyst for the network’s coverage of the USFL. McCoy is still expected to be the No. 1 QB for Arizona during Kyler Murray’s rehab from ACL surgery, but he did not want to pass on the opportunity to pursue broadcasting.

“I’ve never really called a live game but I have done a lot of behind-the-scenes work,” McCoy said on Wednesday. “I’ve enjoyed that process. I love the game. I have to study up on the rules — their rules are a little bit different — and I have to learn the players, the coaches, the teams. It’s a little bit different than what we do in the NFL, but I’m excited and I think it’s a great opportunity working with some great people at NBC.”

Fortunately for his playing career, McCoy’s schedule is not entirely determined and his first game will not be until late in May or early June. He went on to explain he has thought about a broadcasting career when his playing days are over, but McCoy is certainly intrigued in the industry.

“I have thought a lot about it,” McCoy said. “I’m not saying this is what I’m going to do because I don’t know how good I’m going to be. It’s an art. In saying that, I’m thankful they choose me to get some practice and do this and see where it goes.”

During the 2022 season, McCoy started 3 games for the Cardinals once Murray was injured. He has started 6 games across the past two seasons and is in line to start more to begin 2023.

In the meantime, we’ll see how McCoy handles the work behind the mic.
