Kobe Black isn’t planning on leaving the Lone Star State anytime soon, committing to Texas on Wednesday in a ceremony broadcast live on YouTube.

Black is a 4-star safety who hails from Waco (Tex.) Connally. The 247Sports Composite rates him as the No. 3 safety and No. 10 Texas prospect in the 2024 class. He picked the Longhorns over Texas A&M, LSU, Oregon, and Oklahoma State.

The sought-after defensive back nearly gave Texas fans a heart attack, picking the Longhorns hat at first, before putting it back down for the Texas A&M one. Black eventually went back to the Texas hat as he confirmed his choice.

Steve Sarkisian picked up his 1st verbal commitment from a safety in the 2024 class as Texas prepares for its SEC debut next year. Black also had offers from Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Texas is getting a versatile athlete with Black. He also plays basketball and runs track for Connally.
