Mel Kiper is among the many looking forward to what Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers can put on tape as the veteran prepares to return to action against the No. 18-ranked Oklahoma Sooners this Saturday.

“Quinn Ewers, this is his team,” Kiper said. “Coming back from an injury. How does he perform?”

Ewers walks back into a fine situation, at the helm of America’s best football team as of now.

“Everyone (calls him a Heisman Trophy candidate), he’s going to be one of the top quarterbacks in the draft getting back to where he’s making those accurate strikes and the decision making and staying away from things that affect then momentum of the game,” Kiper said.

Despite him being one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in the nation before he went down with an injury, it almost seemed like many forgot about just how good Ewers was before. Arch Manning did play well and turn some heads in his place, but Ewers was vying for QB1 in the 2025 NFL Draft before Manning ever even got a chance to break onto the scene.

“Quinn Ewers is still a mid-first rounder in my opinion,” Kiper said. “How does he do now that he’s healthy as he rolls through the rest of this season?”

Before Ewers was forced to the sideline, he completed 73.4% of his passes for 691 yards with 8 touchdowns and 2 interceptions over 3 games.

It will be interesting to see how things play out when the Longhorns and the Sooners kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT in Dallas on Saturday.
