Paul Finebaum says Arch Manning should play vs. Texas A&M if Quinn Ewers struggles

Paul Finebaum is among those who are about ready to see the Arch Manning show once more.

Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers is dealing with an ankle injury ahead of the regular-season finale. He picked up the injury in last weekend’s 31-14 win over Kentucky and had an MRI shortly after. Ewers was listed as probable on the injury report the team submitted on Thursday.

Given the nature of the injury, Ewers’s mobility will be a question. Finebaum supports the idea of benching Ewers and giving Manning the reins if he struggles in the Longhorns’ next matchup against the No. 20 Texas A&M.

And he does not believe they should waste any time making such a decision.

“I would do it very quickly because Ewers is banged up,” Finebaum said Friday morning on SportsCenter. “Arch Manning is one of the best players in the country that we just haven’t seen very much of, so I wouldn’t wait (to play Manning).”

The stakes could not be higher for the Longhorns.

“It’s a critical game because (if) Texas loses this and they really throw away the SEC championship, they have to sit around and wait on the CFP (committee),” Finebaum said.

Ewers finished out his most recent appearance by going 20-for-31 passing for 191 yards with 2 touchdowns. Ewers has posted a 68% completion rate this season, throwing for 2,089 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.

Texas and Texas A&M are set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Kyle Field. The Longhorns are a 5.5-point favorite, via ESPN Bet.
