Steve Sarkisian praises Arch Manning for ability to 'bounce back' after mistakes in first start
Steve Sarkisian spoke about Arch Manning’s first career start during his weekly appearance on the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday.
Manning led Texas to a 51-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, but it wasn’t a perfect performance for Manning. He threw a pair of interceptions in the win — the first of his collegiate career.
On Wednesday, Sarkisian praised Manning for how he bounced back from those mistakes.
“I thought he responded well,” Sarkisian said. “Look at a couple of things, and the one thing you find out is when you’re late on throws, especially over the middle, bad things can happen. I do think the way he responded to those, his ability to bounce back, and play good football was really encouraging.”
Manning ended up completing 15-of-29 passes for 258 yards, 2 touchdowns and those 2 interceptions.
Quarterback Quinn Ewers is still working his way back from an abdominal injury that he suffered the week before against UTSA. Ewers’ status for this weekend’s game against Mississippi State is uncertain. The Longhorns will release their first availability report of the week on Wednesday evening.
