Texas hoops fell just short of the Final Four Sunday, dropping a hard-fought game to a strong Miami team, 88-81.
The Longhorns led by 10 with 8 minutes and 40 seconds remaining, but struggled to score as Miami upped its intensity on defense. Tied at 79 with just a minute to go, Miami’s Norchad Omier knocked down a pair of free throws and Texas missed on the other end. From there, the Hurricanes simply won the free throw game to advance to their first Final Four in program history.
Miami came all the way back despite not making a single 3-pointer in the 2nd half.

All things considered, this was a strong season for the Longhorns. Texas made a coaching change halfway through the season and was without star player Dylan Disu for Sunday’s matchup against the Hurricanes. The Longhorns defeated Kansas in the Big 12 championship game and cracked the Elite 8 for the first time since 2008.
The end of the year does yield some questions, however. Will the Longhorns stick with Rodney Terry as head coach or look elsewhere? After their March run, it’s hard to believe many candidates will outshine Terry’s late season efforts.
As for the rest of college basketball, the Final Four is officially set. Miami will face off against UConn while FAU will battle San Diego State for a shot at the national title.
