Texas receiver Brenen Thompson is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to a report.

Rivals’ Nick Harris was 1st to report that news on Wednesday afternoon. Thompson played in 9 games as a true freshman for the Longhorns last season.

Despite featuring in 9 games, Thompson had not yet carved out a consistent role in Texas’ offense. He made just 1 catch for 32 yards on the season. That reception came in a loss to Oklahoma State.

Thompson was a big-time recruit for Texas in the class of 2022. He was a 4-star prospect and the No. 131 overall player in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He was also the No. 20 receiver and the 21 player from the state of Texas.

Thompson will likely not officially appear in the transfer portal until later this week. The NCAA’s designated transfer portal window will open on April 15.

Texas has continued to recruit well at the receiver position. The Longhorns signed 3 new wide receivers in the class of 2023 from the high school ranks. They also picked up a talented transfer from Georgia in Adonai Mitchell, who is expected to play a big role this season.
