Texas heard Brett Yormark loud and clear this offseason. The Longhorns didn’t shy from taking a parting shot at the Big 12 commissioner in their final conference home game.
After defeating Texas Tech to secure a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game, Texas played the clip of Yormark sharing this summer that he would be pulling for the Red Raiders to take care of business against the Horns in Austin.

The clip comes from Yormark’s August appearance at the Red Raider Club kickoff luncheon.
“Candidly, we were able to get Texas and Oklahoma out (of the Big 12) a year early. That was a big deal for us and I think all of you,” said Yormark. “And Coach (Joey McGuire), I’m not going to put any pressure on you, but I’m going to be in Austin on Thanksgiving. And you better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year.”
Yormark taking sides led to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian questioning the conference’s sportsmanship message. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey also weighed in about the “respect” that the departing programs expect. Yormark ceded the Red River Rivalry to Sankey this season.
Now, Yormark has to prepare to potentially congratulate Texas as Big 12 champions in Arlington.
