Here are five takeaways from Vanderbilt’s 34-10 loss to Florida.

1. Ralph Webb’s historic season deserves acclaim. Despite two fumbles, Webb was able to gain 83 yards on 16 carries, setting a new Vanderbilt freshman rushing record. The Gainesville Fla., native passed the late Kwane Doster’s previous best of 798 yards and now has 843 with two games remaining.

Webb looks to have a historic career at Vanderbilt and should continue his development in his sophomore season.

2. Johnny McCrary faced some struggles. A week after having a career-best performance, McCrary struggled to find his consistency against Florida. The redshirt freshman threw two interceptions and went 14-of-35 passing, throwing a 40 percent completion percentage. McCrary still has time to develop and should improve with gained experience.

3. Nigel Bowden continues his breakout season. Bowden recorded six tackles and a forced fumble in Saturday’s loss. The redshirt freshman leads the Commodores with 74 tackles and continues to progress by the passing week. Bowden looks to be an elite SEC linebacker in the coming years after a breakout first season.

4. Vanderbilt has a talented pair of tight ends. Davis Dudchock and Steven Scheu have emerged as McCrary’s favorite targets. Each player had five catches with Dudchock totaling 90 yards and Scheu recording 71 and a touchdown. The duo provided the Commodores with solid options in the passing attack and were two of the few bright spots for the struggling offense.

5. Vanderbilt’s bowl hopes are over, look toward future. With two games remaining, Vanderbilt cannot gain bowl eligibility. The Commodores have made considerable improvements since Week 1, which may go unnoticed by many. Derek Mason has several pieces to build for his program’s future and should make the necessary changes to improve.
