Chris Doering gives Vanderbilt high marks for its season-opening win
Vanderbilt opened some eyes on Saturday night with its 63-10 win at Hawaii, which marked a great way to start the second season of the Clark Lea era in Nashville.
Are the Commodores likely to contend for an SEC title in 2022? No.
But several onlookers, including ESPN and SEC Network analyst Chris Doering, liked what they saw from Vandy in its opener.
“This doesn’t mean they’re going to go undefeated and win the national championship, but I think we can all agree that we saw progress from where they were last year,” said Doering, a former standout wide receiver at Florida. “We’re seeing some changes … I think what you saw was a team that’s resilient — started slowly, struggled with some penalties early on, but didn’t let it get them down.”

Vanderbilt returns to action at home Saturday night against Elon and with a victory will match its win total from all of last season.
The game is set to kick off at 7 (ET) and will be televised by ESPN+ and SEC Network+.
