Diego Pavia is just a couple of days removed from leading Vanderbilt to a historic 40-35 upset victory over Alabama in Week 6.

On Monday, the Vandy quarterback appeared on the Dan Patrick show to discuss the victory. Patrick asked a question about any potential “chirping” from Alabama during the game. As Pavia tells it, Alabama’s captains were extremely confident going into the game during the pregame coin toss.

“At the beginning of the game, as a captain I go out there for the coin toss, they were talking crazy,” Pavia said. “They thought they were going to come in here and treat us like we were an FCS team. We were like, ‘What? Oh, you must not know.’ You know what I mean? ‘Alright, we’re going to see.’ That’s what I kept telling them.

“They were laughing, talking … I can’t say on the show because I can’t curse, but they were talking crazy … We didn’t even shake their hands after [the coin toss]. We just took off the sideline.”

Here’s part of Pavia’s interview on the Dan Patrick Show:

Alabama’s captains for the 2024 season are Jalen Milroe, Malachi Moore, Tyler Booker and Deontae Lawson.

Pavia finished the game by completing 16-of-20 passes for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for a 56 yards on the day and was excellent on third down all game long. In the end, he led Vandy to its first win over Alabama since 1984.

Vanderbilt will try to pick up another SEC win this weekend against Kentucky.
