The Toronto Blue Jays drafted former Vanderbilt INF/OF Austin Martin with the No. 5 overall pick of the 2020 MLB Draft.

His slot value at No. 5 was around $6.8 million, but when he reportedly signed his contract on Wednesday, he ended up with a bit more money.

Per insider Jon Heyman, Martin’s rookie deal with the Blue Jays is worth a shade over $7 million:

Martin’s 2020 campaign was cut short, but he was a key piece of Vandy’s 2019 national title-winning team. That year, he hit .392 with 10 home runs, 46 RBI and 18 stolen bases.

Now, we’ll just have to see how long it takes him to navigate his way through the Blue Jays’ loaded farm system to reach the big leagues.
