Vanderbilt had to beat out a few Power 5 programs to do it but Derek Mason’s Commodore program managed to keep John Howse IV home.

The Brentwood High School standout announced his decision to commit to Vanderbilt on Tuesday over scholarship offers from Arkansas, Nebraska, Boston College and Indiana, among others.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Howse is rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 61 cornerback recruit in the nation for the 2021 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings. Following his pledge to join the Commodore program, Howse is now the second-highest rated prospect committed to Vanderbilt’s 2021 recruiting class.

Vanderbilt now holds pledges from 16 commitments in the current recruiting cycle.
