Kelvon McBride, a 3-star athlete out of Mobile, Alabama, has announced a commitment to play in the SEC.

McBride announced a commitment to play at Vanderbilt, as the recruit out of Cottage Hill Christian Academy could be in line to be a linebacker for the Commodores in the class of 2023. He’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, and is ranked the No. 64 linebacker in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 33 player in the state of Alabama.

“When I got there this weekend, it felt like home,” McBride told 247Sports. “It was a family environment; everybody was like family. The players were cool.”

McBride has already shown some versatility as in high school he plays wide receiver, linebacker, defensive back and running track. After Vanderbilt, his offers included Arkansas State, Army, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern and Navy. Linebackers coach Nick Lezynski was McBride’s primary recruiter.

Considering the possibility that the SEC rearranges its schedule in such a way that would pit Vanderbilt against McBride’s home-state schools of Alabama and Auburn more often, he said he is excited to face off against the best.

“It’s real cool — not just playing in that conference, but getting a good education,” McBride said.
