Kirk Herbstreit’s list of top-performing teams from Week 11 included a few teams that he rarely names, if ever. But the showing that 1 SEC team turned in on Saturday deserved all of the plaudits it received.

Vanderbilt traveled to Kentucky on Saturday facing a heavy challenge. The Commodores hadn’t won an SEC game in 26 tries, their last conference win coming on Oct. 19, 2019 against a Missouri team ranked in the top 25.

Despite being heavy underdogs, though, Vandy claimed a signature win for an emotional Clark Lea, striking for a late touchdown to leave Lexington with a 24-21 win. Mike Wright threw for 184 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, while totaling 11 carries for 126 yards and opening the scoring with a touchdown run, his 5th of the season.

Vanderbilt has 2 games remaining, both in Nashville: Florida and its annual rivalry matchup against Tennessee. Can Lea’s team turn more heads down the stretch and give itself momentum heading into 2023?
