Former Vanderbilt star RB Ralph Webb had a big preseason for the New England Patriots, but with a loaded backfield, the team simply didn’t have room for him on the roster.

According to a report from a Patriots beat writer on Saturday, the Pats have released the talented running back.

Webb could be a target for the New England practice squad, but first he has to clear through waivers:

Webb’s best preseason game came in the first contest against Washington, when he ran for 46 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

Whether he ends up on the New England practice squad or on a new team’s roster, Webb will likely continue drawing an NFL paycheck through the 2018 season somewhere.
