Clark Lea continues to build his new staff at Vanderbilt and he has reportedly reached into the NFL to hire a defensive assistant from the Buffalo Bills where he has coached the last four years.

Vanderbilt is hiring Buffalo Bills assistant LB coach John Egorugwu as the school’s new linebackers coach, Pete Thamel of Yahoo reported. He brings six combined years of NFL experience with the Bills and Ravens.

Egorugwu’s title with the Bills was assistant linebackers coach and defensive quality control.

Egorugwu has coached in the NFL since 2015, and previously was an assistant coach at Missouri State where he coached wide receivers, and a graduate assistant at Missouri where he earned a master’s degree.

Egorugwu played linebacker at William Jewell College.

He will work with former Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Jesse Minter, who was named Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator. The Commodores have also announced two other defensive assistants, Inoke Breckterfield and Jovan Haye, as Minter will also coach the safeties.
