Sarah Fuller makes SEC, Power 5 history against Tennessee
Sarah Fuller made college football history on Saturday as the first woman to score in a Power 5 game.
After a 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, Fuller kicked Vanderbilt’s extra point. It was good, tying the Commodores and Tennessee Volunteers at 7-7.

The Dores took a 10-7 lead in the second quarter with a field goal from VU’s other kicker, Pierson Cooke. According to the SEC Network broadcast, Cooke is the long field-goal kicker while Fuller is the short field-goal kicker.
It was two weeks ago that Fuller made history as the first woman to play in an SEC football game, kicking off for Vanderbilt against Missouri, a game the Dores lost 41-0.
Good Grief! Now we are going to have to read writers, and listen to commentators on this non issue. A high school kid can hit from the 3. I am 61 and probably could. Tell me when she hits a 40 yarder and makes a couple of tackles on kickoffs. Then it will be something other than a publicity stunt.
Well said!
The irony of an Alabama fan talking trash about any kicker who can’t a 40 yarder or tackle is not lost on me
Considering that it hasn’t made much difference to Bama’s success, I would imagine a lot escapes you. Speaking of irony, that would be a UF fan talking trash to anyone.
So you just admit it doesn’t matter whose kicking so why do you care so much that it’s a girl does it make you more insecure than your degree
LOL ^^^
As a bama fan, I must say, well played
Only one thing left for her to do now to gain attention… Trans* time baby
Well, she made history. I’m sure the guy that made a 39 yard FG is incapable of making an extra point. The same guy that kicked it to the end zone probably can’t squib it to the 35 either. No, it wasn’t a publicity stunt.
Yeas, it was a publicity stunt! And it really diminishes all the YEARS of hard work boys and young men put in just to get on the field at ANY level of CFB! But, it’s Vanderbilt, and they are totally deserving of having to bear the burden of this farce!
Yeah I’m pretty sure that was LSUSMC sarcasm. Easy.
No-those facts don’t override the emotions of others. Anyone promoting facts and truth is a bigot misogynist.
She made a XP. Congrats to her! Why are so many people butthurt about this? Why does it bother you so much that a girl is playing football?
The issue is why does the guy who kicks 30 yarders not kick XP’s, which are much easier? Shouldn’t the most capable person kick both?
Using logic is sexist to the sjw dimwits.
Your team literally had co starting kickers in 2012
Why play walk-ons and backup players? Shouldn’t only the most capable be out there playing?
If the lead is significant and it makes sense to play lesser players, that is the smart move. If the starters are hurt or the walk-on becomes the best player-they should play. I’m advocating meritocracy. If the best option is female-she should play. The field goal attempts show that isn’t the case in this situation.
Vandy’s PAT kickers got injured. So they went and got a walk-on kicker to kick PAT’s (Fuller). Vandy has a separate PAT kicker and FG kicker.
I was being sarcastic.
Fully agree, good for her and that’s about the end of it. But … pretty sure we are now on to the “significance” of it all and endless platitudes of the so called milestone for the next week or more. Nice little fun story that has been beaten into the ground and now it’s really going to get beaten in the ground. That’s the issue for me. Again, good for her.
The publicity stunt for meaningless actions becomes old when the media constantly harps on it. It does not open doors for women, it make them a caricature of a football player and destroys the feminist mantra that they can do anything men can. Vandy will either have to put her health at risk, or go 10 guys on 11 during kickoffs if she actually kicks a returnable kick.
After this the creation of the Heiswoman award. With this kick also boot vandy out of the sec. Not a fan of ut at all but I hope they drop the hammer on the joke of the sec.
If you thought of peopleas being equals then she wouldn’t be so covered just for being a girl. Sexists dummies
The other kicker that complainers say “should” have kicked the extra point. Is he losing a spot? Is anyone actually being hurt (besides feelings) by Fuller being on the team? I’d doubt she’s on scholarship, so there’s no detriment to it all. Sounds like a bunch of whining about nothing to me.
So it’s a publicity stunt. Vandy is winless this year and an automatic win for conference opponents most years. That they decided to pull a publicity stunt is no big deal. And if some writers want to act like it’s something to get excited about (in other words, find an easy story to make a buck with) so what? A bunch of whiners around here need to grow up.
Besides, it is kind of cool to see it happen, even if it was a stunt. If it bothers you, you’re a bit too delicate a flower to follow football — maybe you should go find a nice, affirming yoga class; a vegan smoothie and a gluten-free cookie to make you feel better.
It does in fact take field time away from the better player. The player would otherwise be kicking extra points as well and is prevented from doing so not because of ability, but because of his sex. Your argument is in defense of this and against meritocracy. If the game is to be played in order to check quota boxes, the SEC is doing a poor job of it. It’s also ironic that those seeking a meritocracy are somehow being childish in your opinion, when the position you advocate is purely based on emotion.
It’s people like you BCinNC that Georgia is now a Blue state. Allowing the liberal media to control the narrative on everything is leading to the destruction of America.
It’s an extra point. By Vandy. Not a big deal. Meritocracy will survive in all the schools that are actually competitive. To say that it is somehow threatened by any of this is a pathetic attempt at an argument.
And it’s funny how free speech becomes a “liberal-controlled narrative” whenever the delicate sensibilities of some people are hurt. You’re free to argue whatever you like, and I’m free to call you an overly sensitive, threatened man-child. Because you are.
And you’re a leming if you believe a Division 1 football team cannot field a kicker without plucking a player from the women’s soccer team.
No one lost a spot over it. No one was harmed. The people freaking out over it are pathetic, over-sensitive babies who need to grow up and learn how to move on.
If I’m being overly sensitive-why would I not resort to name calling? Why are you the only one upset here? It’s called projection. Nothing you’ve stated refutes the fact that the actual kicker is being sidelined because of his sex.
I’m not upset — I’m having a few laughs at the expense of all those freaking out over this. It’s not projection; it’s schadenfreude.
If others are freaking out-why are you the only one insulting people?
Also-tell me why it’s ok to sideline people because of the chromosomes they were born with. Can’t figure out why you won’t address that.
When you can’t win an argument with logic and facts, you result to ad hominem attacks, ie “threatened man-child” “pathetic, over-sensitive babies” etc. Fear of missing out on the latest social justice bandwagon tends to do that.
Why are some of you so threatened by this? Congrats to her. I’m betting the most athletic thing most of these “men” who are protesting did today was reaching for the remote.
Because it’s sexual discrimination. Their kickers can probably hit 40 yard field goals all day. What can she do? It’s just simply stupid that’s why.
Well, thats like your opinion man.
Describe how I’m threatened.
Probably better for you to do that.
You’re making baseless allegations
Her making the kick doesn’t bother me at all. Whatever. It’s cool. But it’s not amazing or ground-breaking or anything, and people who hyperventilate over it are annoying. It’s not just about making a quick buck; it’s about the relentless PC narratives shoved down our throats all the time. And you know that.
The Vandy kickers should all transfer and all kickers should boycott Vandy moving forward. I would be very mad if I was Vandys kicker. They gave his job away away to a girl just because she’s female…not because she’s better. That’s sexism and discrimination at its finest. When Vandy needs a 40 yard field goal to win…good luck!
Good for her. If she had missed that would have been too funny.
The amount of butthurt in a thread this short is almost comical. I really feel for you if this got under your skin so badly. Who. Gives. A. Sh*t.
Almost?
I didn’t want to hurt their feelings too bad. They seem sensitive.
Lol
Thin skin folk get butt hurt easily.
Definitely Special Teams player of the week!
If women wanted to be treated equal, should Fuller be receiving this much attention? Double standard is what is. Being used for a WOKE PR stunt because their football team is a disgrace this year. You bring in a kicker to kick a FG but let her do the extra points? Vandy just got busted for being the wokest college in the SEC and probably FBS, which we already knew..
Fuller and the rest of her woke ilk haven’t figured it out now that football is coed she singlehandedly killed Title IX for college sports.
Vanderbilt coach Todd Fitch said after the game that the plan was for Fuller to handle kicks inside the 10-yard line, as she proved to be the most accurate among the team’s available kickers in that range.
“She’s been accurate in that area of the field,” Fitch said. “… We get in the game and she was highly accurate with it in that range, the extra points and inside the 10, so she was going to get those. The other kickers were going to get it further back.
“It was truly off statistics of the week’s preparation. It wasn’t about trying to do something special. It was truly who made most of those kicks.”
Out of curiosity… why aren’t people getting as upset about the fact that the Broncos went out and got a WR to play QB when all of theirs were out? She went out and crushed a textbook extra point so kudos to her. Those that say “no big deal its just an extra point, anyone can do it”… yo… i’ve seen your types kicking at the pregame tailgates and it aint that pretty…
Does the coach think we’re stupid? If your kicker hits behind 40 you can darn sure they can under 10. So glad this charade and insult to cfb fans is over.
Would be interesting to see a girl kickoff or punt, then have to make an open field tackle to stop a touchdown. Yeah, I know. Looking at some of the male kickers you might get the same results. I played high school football as a safety, all 145 pounds. I see a back break tackles and coming my way with all 210 pounds at full speed. Your first thought..”Ah Shirt”.
