Yes, Notre Dame has a storied history and a mystique surrounding it in the eyes of many college football fans.

However, the Fighting Irish haven’t done much of note in the past couple of decades, reaching the national title game just once and getting blown out by Alabama.

When Vanderbilt travels to South Bend on Saturday afternoon, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t think the Commodores will be caught up in the history. In fact, he went as far as to say on College GameDay that he thinks the ‘Dores will come out of the game with a win:

“I don’t think there’s this aura that intimidates the Vandy players,” he said. “I think Vandy is going to win this game. You’ve got a veteran quarterback in Kyle Shurmur who can dink and dunk, move the chains. It’ll be close, but I think Vandy wins this game.”

The Commodores are 2-0, thanks to a strong defensive start. If that continues on Saturday afternoon, Vandy could indeed pull off the upset.

Tune in to NBC at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time to find out if coach Derek Mason’s squad can improve to 3-0.
