De’Rickey Wright has had an eventful recruitment, but he’s landed on Vanderbilt on the eve of the Early Signing Period. The 3-star athlete from Gadsden, Alabama previously was committed to Alabama and Ole Miss.

Wright is the No. 19 athlete in this class, according to 247Sports, and the No. 19 player in the state of Alabama. He’s 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. Wright reportedly had 22 offers.

Wright has said he plans to play safety at Vanderbilt, and he elaborated on his future during an interview with Rivals.

“Vanderbilt has been recruiting me since the beginning and I decided to go there over the weekend on my visit,” he said. “The coaching staff and just Nashville itself were big reasons, and of course the prestigious school played into it too. Coach Mattioli is the main coach that recruited me and I told him and the Vanderbilt coaches of my decision Sunday. I mean it really wasn’t that tough of a decision. I had amazing people around me and prayers sent. It’s a blessing that I get to go to Vanderbilt.

“They stuck with me through the whole recruitment and always showed love. It was meant to be.”
