Vanderbilt added to its 2022 recruiting class on Sunday with a pledge from Chase Gillespie of Tallahassee, Florida (Amos P. Godby).

Gillespie is a 5-foot-9 and 180 pound running back who is rated a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite. He is rated the No. 82 running back in America, and the No. 140 player in the state of Florida. He was recruited by Norval McKenzie. Vanderbilt now has 19 commitments.

“I chose Vanderbilt because I felt like they had the best opportunities for me football-wise and school-wise,” Gillespie told Vandy247. “They have one of the best education programs in the world.”

Vanderbilt jumped up one spot in the 247Sports Composite team rankings with Gillespie’s commitment, leapfrogging USC to move from No. 32 nationally to No. 31. The ‘Dores remain No. 11 in the SEC.

Vanderbilt has looked for a shifty back with versatility to pair with Maurice Edwards in its 2022 class, and Gillespie said he anticipates contributing quite a bit in the passing game.

“I feel like I can bring a lot of versatility to Vanderbilt for my skill set,” Gillespie said. “From me being able to line up in the slot, catch it out of the backfield.”
