Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason confirmed Monday evening that quarterback Kyle Shurmur will play vs. Kentucky despite exiting Saturday’s 13-6 loss to Florida with an eye injury in the fourth quarter, per The Tennessean.

Shurmur left the game and did not return after being poked in the right eye. He will wear a protective shield vs. the Wildcats to prevent further damage.

The most consistent option for the Commodores since the start of 2015, Shurmur has completed over 51 percent of his passes for 696 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in six games this season.

He threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns in last year’s 21-17 win over UK.
