For the first time since March 2018, Vanderbilt has won an SEC basketball game.

The Commodores behind head coach Jerry Stackhouse shockingly upset No. 18 LSU Wednesday night 99-90, as the Tigers were 17-4 overall and 8-0 in conference play. Vandy’s Saben Lee led all scorers with a career high 33 points, four rebounds and six assists. Maxwell Evans also added a career high 31 points, shooting 7-of-12 from three-point range. Lee combined with Scotty Pippen Jr. played really well in the closing minutes to deliver the win. The Commodores hit 12-of-30 from three, while LSU hit just 4-of-18.

LSU’s Trendon Watford scored a team-high 26 points, and Javonte Smart added another 15.

Tigers head coach Will Wade thought Vanderbilt could be a problem this week, but he likely never thought Vandy would snap the streak against his Tigers.

“They’re gonna win some games. I hope it’s not against us on Wednesday,” Wade said Monday. “They’re going to win, more than one, because their effort level is consistent. … When they make those threes, they’re very good.”

The Commodores stunning upset will be a blow to the SEC’s prestige, and it gives LSU a bad loss against a Quadrant 3 team.
