WATCH: Notre Dame players issue classy message of support to Vandy TE Turner Cockrell
Every now and then, something happens that really puts the game of football in perspective.
Vanderbilt got that wake-up call recently, as it was announced that sophomore TE Turner Cockrell had been diagnosed with melanoma. After surgery over the summer, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to Cockrell’s lungs, and he’s undergoing further treatment in Houston.
As Cockrell continues to battle the scary disease, Vanderbilt’s Week 3 opponent, Notre Dame, is thinking of him. As you can see in the video below, a pair of Notre Dame players give a shoutout to the Commodore tight end:
Our thoughts and prayers are with @VandyFootball's @Turner_Cockrell and his family as he battles cancer in Houston. #GoIrish ☘️ #VanderbiltMan pic.twitter.com/D52MNX6IkK

That’s a classy gesture from the Irish, and it’s clear that everyone is rooting for Cockrell to beat cancer and return to the field.
Cockrell will continue to be on the minds of his teammates, and Vanderbilt’s Week 3 foe will also hold him in their hearts this weekend.
