In the third inning of the SEC Baseball Tournament Championship Game, it looked like Ole Miss was going to cruise to victory. The Rebels led Vanderbilt 9-1 heading into the bottom of the frame. Then the Commodores came alive on offense.
In the bottom of the third and fourth innings, Vandy scored seven consecutive runs. A three-run jack by VU CF Pat DeMarco cut it to 9-8 in the bottom of the fourth. The homer brought Austin Martin home. Martin has now scored 76 runs on the season, tying the single-season record set by Dansby Swanson (2015) and Pedro Alvarez (2007).
The Rebels have since scored to extend their lead back to two runs (10-8) in the top of the 5th inning, but Vanderbilt is definitely in it. Looks like we’re in for a fun finish out in Hoover.
