Week 5 Win Probability: Vanderbilt
Using ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index) as a guide, Vanderbilt (1-3, 0-2) has an 10.3 percent chance to beat Kentucky (2-1, 0-1) on Saturday.
RALPH WEBB MUST CARRY THE LOAD FOR VANDY OFFENSE
Ralph Webb has been the bright spot for a struggling Vanderbilt offense. Webb leads the Commodores with 378 rushing yards and a touchdown on 77 attempts. He’s averaging 4.91 yards per carry and 94.50 yards per game.
The redshirt freshman has rushed for over 90 yards in each of his last three games and has averaged over 4.46 yards per carry in each contest. Despite Webb’s breakout season, the Commodores have seen little success otherwise on offense.
Vanderbilt still faces questions at the quarterback position. Patton Robinette will play on Saturday, despite suffering a concussion in last week’s loss to No. 13 South Carolina. Robinette played well against UMass in the Commodores’ only win of the season, but may play conservatively following his injury.
Webb must carry the load for Vanderbilt to upset an improved Kentucky team in Lexington. The offense should center around the redshirt freshman tailback, which will lead to Webb posting solid numbers. This takes pressure off of Robinette, while also opening up pass plays in a balanced attack.
Kentucky’s defense looks stronger in Mark Stoops’ second season and will be a tall task for a struggling Vanderbilt offense. For the Commodores to compete, Webb must take the reins and have a stellar performance.
