After introducing Auburn’s new athletic director Allen Greene, president Steven Leath made himself available to the media Friday.

The hot topic was Gus Malzahn’s new contract extension. Malzahn elected to sign the extension at Auburn, worth a reported seven years at $49 million, over taking the Arkansas head coaching job. The Hogs were offering something similar for Malzahn.

Leath revealed that Malzahn’s extension actually hasn’t been signed yet and the details are still being worked out.

“We actually haven’t signed (Malzahn’s contract) either,” Leath told AL.com’s James Crepea. “We’re still working through the final details. I’m still a trust guy and Gus and I are functioning well together. We know the basic tenets, we’ve drawn things up, sent it to his attorney. We’ll get that cleaned up pretty soon.”

Leath also told AL.com that the massive contract isn’t fully guaranteed, but he did add that it’s more than half guaranteed.

Auburn fans shared mixed emotions after Malzahn elected to stay at Auburn. There was speculation that he would likely take the Arkansas job following the SEC Championship Game loss to Georgia.
