Alabama and Florida’s showdown in Tuscaloosa is a mere 24 hours away as the stage is set for one of the most intriguing games of the weekend.

The Crimson Tide enter the game as the No. 3 ranked team and a 14.5 point favorite over the Gators, a team desperately looking for a big statement win against top competition. No one quite knows how this game will turn out tomorrow afternoon, but we decided to give it shot.

Here are some bold predictions for the Gators before they take the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Bold prediction #1: Vernon Hargreaves limits Amari Cooper to 50 receiving yards or less

There’s no denying that Amari Cooper is the best, if not, one of the top receivers in college football. But he’ll be lining up against Gators’ defensive back Vernon Hargreaves, who is widely considered the best cover corner in the SEC. It’s the matchup everyone will be looking at come Saturday afternoon.

So far this season, Cooper has been nothing but dominant, leading the SEC in receptions (33) and receiving yards (454). However, with Hargreaves opposite him, I think the Gators corner gets the best of Cooper. The Florida sophomore has only been thrown to nine times this season and has broken up more than half of the passes (5.) Cooper may still haul in several receptions, but I think Hargreaves keeps any damage from him rather limited.

Bold prediction #2: Clay Burton sets a career-high for receptions

With the injury to tight end Jake McGee, Burton became the de facto top receiving option at the tight end position for the Gators. Burton, who was considered more of a blocking tight end, caught a career-high seven receptions in the season-opener against Kentucky. He won’t stretch the field, but he’s shown the ability to help move the chains within the offense.

Against an aggressive defense like Alabama, a team that could easily take advantage of some weaknesses within the Gators offensive line, I believe quarterback Jeff Driskel will be forced to play it safe and will dump it to Burton on more than one occasion. He may not rack up the yards, but Burton will surpass seven receptions against Alabama to set a new-career high.

Bold prediction #3: Quinton Dunbar has a receiving TD of more than 40 yards

It’s safe to say the Alabama secondary is less than 100 percent. Starting defensive back Jarrick Williams is out of the game due to injury and Eddie Jackson is hampered by an injury as well. Safety Nick Perry will be out for the first half after a targeting penalty last week, so the Crimson Tide will be forced to rotate players and include more inexperienced, albeit talented players against the Gators passing game.

All of the focus will be on Demarcus Robinson after his incredible performances in Florida’s first two games, so I think the Gators’ next best option – Quinton Dunbar – makes an impact. I believe Dunbar not only steps up with a big game for the Gators, but the senior wideout beats the secondary deep for a big-play touchdown off of a pass from quarterback Jeff Driskel.
