On Tuesday, CBS analyst Gary Danielson made an appearance on the SEC on CBS Podcast.

Along with the usual musings within the conference, Danielson touched upon the hottest topic swirling around the South: the firing of Les Miles.

There’s no doubt that the LSU coaching position will be a major commodity throughout this season. Danielson believes that there are two candidates that will be targeted for the job. However, he doesn’t believe that either will end up in Baton Rouge:

“My prediction is — I could be totally wrong, because we all know who they are going to go after; my prediction is the two names — Tom Herman and Jimbo Fisher — are going to pass.”

Herman has been the early name most associated with the LSU job. Fisher also has obvious ties to the program — having formerly worked with the-then head coach Nick Saban.

While he doesn’t necessarily think Herman or Fisher will take the job (if offered), Danielson has a surprise candidate — also currently residing in the SEC:

“Well, I know who I would like to represent,” Danielson continued. “I don’t know if he wants the job or not. One thing that has been short at LSU has been the quarterback position. Right now, there’s no head coach in college football football who has a better quarterback resume than this guy. He was the offensive coordinator at Utah for Alex Smith — a QB playing at a high level for the Kansas City Chiefs. Tim Tebow — his next quarterback at Florida — won the Heisman Trophy. And now, at Mississippi State, he took all the rejects that LSU didn’t want, and he beat you with Dak Prescott, and look how he’s playing in the NFL. I’d like to represent Dan Mullen, and go in there and throw that resume on the desk.”

Would Mullen make for a good choice at LSU?
