Jay Johnson and the LSU Tigers have landed a big-time commitment in the NCAA transfer portal.

According to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball, Indiana State’s Luis Hernandez has pledged to LSU. While Hernandez is a significant addition for Johnson’s team, the Tigers can’t pop the champagne yet.

Having completed his junior season, Hernandez is eligible for the 2024 MLB Draft. Clubs will certainly be interested in Hernandez’s bat. In 2023, Hernandez posted a .359 batting average with 23 home runs and 76 RBIs.

If Hernandez elects to play his senior season in Baton Rouge, he can provide an instant impact to the lineup. In his career, he has started 144 games as a first baseman, catcher and designated hitter.
