Although LSU and Wisconsin will start their seasons within the confines of the legendary Lambeau Field, there could be an important element missing.

If the NCAA applies its excessive celebration rules, players may be penalized for performing the classic “Lambeau Leap.”

According to the section of the NCAA rules that addresses unsportsmanlike conduct fouls, a penalty would occur after, “Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon himself (or themselves).” They also prohibit, “Going into the stands to interact with spectators, or bowing at the waist after a good play.”

A staple of the stadium’s history, the Lambeau Leap involves a player jumping into the stands following a touchdown, and it has surely been on the mind’s of players leading up to the contest.

The two teams will square off on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
