Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald took first-team reps today as the Bulldogs began their fall practice schedule.

Locked in a four-way battle with Damian Williams, Elijah Staley and Zak Neary, Fitzgerald downplayed getting the nod on Tuesday, saying he only got the reps because he beat Williams at rock-paper-scissors:

“I won rock-paper-scissors, so if anything, my confidence in that game is pretty high right now,” Fitzgerald said in the video.

Fitzgerald said he won with rock, which led a reporter to ask what Damian Williams threw in his loss. Despite Fitzgerald’s funny “no comment” remark, it should be obvious that Williams lost with scissors, as that’s how rock-paper-scissors works.

We’ll have to wait and see what tomorrow’s competition holds and how each quarterback changes up his rock-paper-scissors strategy.
