Ole Miss running back I’Tavius Mathers is set to transfer from the school, according to the Tennessean via text message.

Mathers is a talented back in a crowded backfield for the Rebels. He rushed for a career-low 290 yards in 2014, and he leaves Ole Miss with 189 carries for 1,061 yards and seven touchdowns.

He’ll have one season of eligibility remaining, and he can only play right away if he transfers to the FCS level. Mathers will have to sit out a season if he transfers anywhere at the FBS level.

Mathers would be the second Ole Miss back to transfer, as reports have indicated Mark Dodson is set to transfer to Memphis.

The one glaring weakness from the Rebels’ offense under Hugh Freeze has been the inability to land a premier running back. Freeze inherited talented back Jeff Scott, and Jaylen Walton and Mathers have led the team in rushing over the last two seasons.
