We look around college football at some of the items making news this week…

Real men eat the shell…

You’ve heard of athletes eating raw eggs before, but real men eat them with the shell! Iowa defensive end Drew Ott did just that. Thankfully, we have video to watch it!

Alabama’s schedule is harder than Urban Meyer’s

Thanks to a Reddit CFB thread, we were reminded that Alabama and Ohio State are playing the same number of preseason ranked Big Ten teams. Huh? Yes, that number would be one. Ohio State will play Michigan State (ranked on the preseason Coaches Poll at No. 6), and Alabama will play Wisconsin (ranked on the preseason Coaches Poll at No. 18). Alabama also gets the following preseason ranked teams:

  • No. 7 Auburn
  • No. 9 Georgia
  • No. 13 LSU
  • No. 15 Ole Miss
  • No. 20 Arkansas
  • No. 25 Tennessee

Yeah, I’d say Ohio State has an easier road to the playoff… You can view the Preseason Coaches Poll here.

Buckeyes’ key players suspended

Speaking of the Ohio State Buckeyes, four players were suspended for the week 1 game against Virginia Tech including Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Joey Bosa. Bosa, Jalin Marshall and Dontre Wilson, and wide receiver Corey Smith will miss the road game against Virginia Tech to open the season. Could the Buckeyes slip up? Not likely.

Mike Leach speaks

Leach is one of the more unique college football coaches out there. When he’s not hazing Craig James’ son, he’s giving us some great suggestions on how football can be improved. Some pundits want to expand the playoff to 8 teams. Well, Leach wants to expand it to 64 teams. As he told ESPN: “I don’t know why you don’t have 64 teams… The notion of pinpointing and selecting four perfectly, well that’s not going to happen. That can’t happen effectively.”

Leach also commented on the deflategate nonsense: “If your quarterback wants a deflated football, your soccer-style kicker is going to want it kind of full. If your quarterback wants it really full, your straight-on kicker is going to want less air in it. It’s a regulation football; let them use it however they want to. You use your own ball.”

It got better as he continued: “It’s kind of disturbing if you think about it,” Leach said. “With everything that’s going on, we’re worried about how much air goes into a ball when everybody uses their own ball. It’s not like it’s a forged football. We waste a lot of time with that, and then we worry about the Kardashians. How can it be that we laugh about England’s obsession with the royal family? At least the royal family has college degrees and military service.”

ASU’s Todd Graham joins the fashion wars

While Bielema and Mullen sported some hot sneakers at SEC Media Days, Arizona State’s Todd Graham has some interesting alligator boots complete with the ASU logo during the Pac-12’s event at ESPN this week.

Sure, Tebow is in the NFL, but college football fans love Tebow material! Do you think the wife would be onboard with one of these machines in the corner of my master bedroom?
