We’re less than 10 days from the recruiting frenzy that is National Signing Day, and a lot can change on the recruiting trail between now and then.

If we’ve learned anything from National Signing Days of years past, it’s to always expect the unexpected. With that in mind, here are the five biggest National Signing Day occurrences that could alter the landscape of college football:

1. Either Florida State or USC could jump Alabama with the No. 1 recruiting class this year. The Crimson Tide have held the top spot in the national recruiting rankings for the last five years, but if the Seminoles or Trojans can lock down their last remaining touted targets they could steal that No. 1 spot for themselves. USC could still sign five-star cornerback Iman lrshall, and FSU is on the brink of locking down a slew of four-star prospects still left unclaimed.

2. Florida could jump into the top 20 in the recruiting rankings after sitting below No. 70 as recently as this week. The Gators new coaching staff has had to work on a restricted timeline since the end of the recruiting dead period, and as it stands this week their class is among the smallest of any team from a power five conference. However, Florida is on the cusp of earning commitments from a number of four- and five-star recruits, many of whom hail from the Sunshine State. If the Gators can close the recruiting period strong, they could finish with an elite class even after the coaching change.

3. Will Muschamp could attract the best crop of defensive recruits in the nation. The Tigers will host official visits by two four-star defensive ends this weekend after hosting visits by nine four- and five-star defensive prospects the last two weekends. If Muschamp can convince even half of those stars to sign with Auburn, the Tigers defense could begin matching the production of Gus Malzahn’s spread rushing attack sooner than later, which could in turn elevate Auburn to national title contenders once again.

4. The SEC could have 13 of the top 30 recruiting classes in the nation and 14 of the top 40. As it stands this week, the SEC has 12 of the top 33 classes in the nation, with only Vanderbilt (No. 47) and Florida (No. 74) sitting outside the top 25 percent of the FBS rankings. However, if Florida closes the recruiting process strong the way most expect, it’ll easily jump into the top 30 if not the top 20. Kentucky is one or two signees away from jumping back into the top 30 as well, and upon retaining recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow that’s not unrealistic. And while Vandy remains the cellar-dwellers of the SEC, even it ranked as high as No. 41 last week, and if it can find a hidden gem or two it could potentially break back into the top 40, giving all 14 SEC teams a spot in the top-third of the national recruiting rankings.

5. Cece Jefferson will have the best signing day press conference of any prospect in the 2015 class. Jefferson has been as vocal as any recruit in the nation on social media, hyping up the schools he’s considering on a regular basis, as well as their fans. When he finally does announce his decision, be it on National Signing Day or another day near it on the calendar, expect some theatrics and drama to take place, and perhaps some deception as well as Jefferson finally brings his recruitment to an end.
