Interceptions make the “SportsCenter” highlights, but there’s more to playing cornerback than that, so ranking the SEC’s best corners means that interceptions are just one component.

Cover skills and tackling are among the other factors to consider.

Figuring out who the best was this year was easy because Florida’s Vernon Hargreaves III does it all very well. That’s why he’s going to be a rich man when the 2016 NFL Draft comes along.

Here’s a look at the 10 best cornerbacks in the SEC in 2015.

10. Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama): The true freshman became the only player in school history to return two interceptions for touchdowns in one game when he took a pair back from 33 and 55 yards, respectively, against Texas A&M. An excellent athlete with a great nose for the ball, Fitzpatrick started eight games and appeared in 12. He finished the regular season sixth on the team in tackles with 41, including 27 solo, and added the two interceptions, eight passes defended, two sacks and a blocked kick.

9. Tony Bridges (Ole Miss): The former junior college All-American made an immediate difference for the Rebels this fall, totaling 34 tackles, six passes defended and three interceptions.

8. De’Vante Harris (Texas A&M): A senior with 25 career starts, Harris had a banner 2015 season, totaling two interceptions, including one for a touchdown, to go with 53 tackles and five pass breakups.

7. Taveze Calhoun (Mississippi State): A three-year starter who graduated and is working on a Master’s degree, Calhoun totaled 37 tackles in 2015 to go with seven pass breakups and two interceptions. He was the only SEC player named as a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, the “Academic Heisman” that recognizes the nation’s best scholar-athlete.

6. Will Redmond (Mississippi State): The senior was having another solid season with two interceptions when he tore his right ACL against Louisiana Tech on Oct. 20 to end his career.

5. Mike Hilton (Ole Miss): The senior Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist has started at every position in the defensive backfield over his career, although he projects as an NFL cornerback. His 11 tackles for loss led SEC defensive backs and were second on the team. He tied for third in the conference with 13 passes defended.

4. Cameron Sutton (Tennessee): The junior three-year starter earned first-team All-American honors from Sporting News. Sutton totaled 28 tackles to go along with six pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one interception. The speedy Sutton also averaged 18.7 yards per punt return, best in nation among those with at least 15 returns, and he returned two for touchdowns. His 467 punt return yards set a school single-season record.

3. Tre’Davious White (LSU): The junior Thorpe Award finalist and three-year starter appears to be the latest in the lineage of great cornerbacks to come out of LSU. White earned second-team All-SEC honors after tallying 38 tackles and six pass breakups.

2. Jalen Tabor (Florida): Playing opposite Hargreaves assured Tabor of getting a lot of balls thrown his way, and he responded in a big way to earn first-team All-SEC accolades. The sophomore finished with 33 tackles and four interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns. Tabor led the conference and ranked tied for 10th among FBS players with 18 passes defended.

1. Vernon Hargreaves III (Florida): The junior was a first-team All-American and first-team SEC choice after tying for fourth in the SEC with four interceptions. A natural cover corner with great athleticism and nose for the ball, Hargreaves figures to be a high first-round pick in the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft.
