Considered one of the gems of an expected heavy haul defensively, Fields is now eyeing Clemson, Georgia and Texas. South Carolina’s projected Top 10 class nationally will take a substantial hit with this announcement.
Fields told 247Sports recruiting analyst Ryan Bartow that he didn’t like where the Gamecocks were headed in the future.
“I just got off the phone with coach Grady Brown and told him,” Fields said. “There’s too much uncertainty. It’s something I don’t feel like I should get into. Coach Brown told me that he understands and if I ever want to come back I’m still the No. 1 guy on their board.”
Over the summer, Fields won the fastest man award at Nike’s ‘The Opening’ in Oregon, one of the more prestigious combines.
