Four-star defensive back Mark Fields, one of the jewels in this season’s signing class for South Carolina, told Phil Kornblut on Wednesday that he is considering two other schools due to growing concerns about Steve Spurrier’s cloudy future in Columbia.

“I would say I’m still committed to South Carolina, but with all the stuff going on about how long Steve Spurrier is going to be there and possibly having to deal with a coaching change while I’m there, I’m just taking all of that into consideration,” Fields said. “But I’m still committed to the Gamecocks.”

Fields, winner of the fastest man event at Nike’s ‘The Opening’ camp over the summer, has been committed to South Carolina since March and is rated the sixth-best cornerback nationally. The Charlotte native could also play nickelback or safety at the next level and is expected to compete for a starting role as a true freshman in what was an underwhelming secondary this season.

Fields has offers from Alabama and Georgia among several others and plans to take official visits to Clemson and Texas before signing day.
