Every offseason, there are a select number of coaches, including Jon Gruden, Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban, who always seem to have rumors swirling about their potential interest in a coaching job that’s come open.

While that hasn’t been the case for Saban recently, it certainly holds true for Gruden and Fisher. Fisher’s status with Florida State has been particularly under fire recently, and the rumors only seem to be growing by the day.

Josh Newberg, a writer with Noles247, decided to address some of those rumors on Wednesday, and what he said about the connection between Fisher and Texas A&M is interesting.

I can officially say, this is a situation that deserves your attention. A&M is going to pursue Fisher with a lot of money, resources and an opportunity to start fresh.

Newberg also describes Fisher as A&M’s “number one target” to replace Kevin Sumlin. It’s already been reported that current Aggies coach would be fired following the game against LSU on Saturday, so that news only fuels the idea that Fisher could the target to replace him.

Probably the strongest connection between two centers around Fisher’s relationship with A&M’s athletic director Scott Woodward from their time together at LSU, and that familiarity cannot be underestimated at this time.

It doesn’t seem likely that Fisher would part ways with Florida State considering his success with the team. He’s 82-23 (.781) in eight seasons with the Noles, including 10 or more wins six out of the eight years.

Still, it would be foolish to completely rule out the idea, especially with Florida State’s recent struggles — they’re only 4-6 this season — after coming into the year as a top 5 team.
