The 6-foot-1, 180-pound sophomore played in 11 games during 2014 and made 11 tackles, mostly on special teams. He was awarded the Andy Spiva Defensive Player Award at the 2015 Orange and White Game.
Gaulden had played well enough to be a projected starter at nickelback.
Including Gaulden, Tennessee’s now lost three players for the season. Sophomore guard Austin Sanders (bicep) and fifth-year senior guard Marcus Jackson (arm) will also miss the season.
Cornerback Cam Sutton wants to wear Gaulden’s No. 7 in his honor.
