Auburn fans think JUCO signee Maurice Swain is a run-stopping force now, wait until he’s had several spring practices under his belt under the tutelage of Will Muschamp, the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator whose expertise is developing talent up front.

Swain, a three-star defensive lineman who could play in the middle or off the edge, stands 6-foot-5 at 305 pounds — ideal size for what he’s going to face on the Plains next season.

The LaGrange, Ga. native chose Auburn over Mississippi State among others on JUCO signing day.

“Swain is a guy we’ve known about for a long time,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said according to AuburnUndercover. “Coach (Rodney) Garner recruited him at Georgia. I talked to him before he went to junior college. He’s a big, athletic guy we feel can come in and make an immediate impact up front because we are losing so many guys. We’re tickled to death to have him.”

Swain was a much-needed get for the Tigers who struggled at times against the run this season, giving up the second-most touchdowns on the ground in the SEC West (19). Auburn’s 20 total sacks was its lowest output since 2008.
