Alabama coach Nick Saban offered a statement late Sunday afternoon about a gunshot wound suffered by Raekwon Davis, a projected starter at defensive end.

“Our concern at this time is for Raekwon and his health,” Saban said in a statement released by the school. “While this does not appear to be a serious medical situation, Raekwon is still being evaluated.

The sophomore was reportedly shot in the right leg early Sunday morning outside a bar in Tuscaloosa. His status for this week’s game against Florida State is unknown. Davis was hospitalized after the incident but was reportedly uncooperative when investigators tried to take a report from him.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, Davis, 20, was hospitalized with a minor injury to his leg, and though not targeted, he was hit by a stray bullet.

“The victim told investigators he was standing outside of Bar 17 when he heard several gunshots and realized he had been shot in the right leg,” Homicide Unit commander Capt. Gary Hood said. “The victim was uncooperative with investigators.”

Davis had one sack while appearing in seven games last season.
