This spring, Ole Miss LB Kevontae Ruggs was suspended. Recently, he decided to enter his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Now, the brother of Alabama WR Henry Ruggs III is looking for a new school, though he hasn’t made a decision as of yet.

On Tuesday, at SEC spring meetings in Destin, Florida, coach Matt Luke said it was a mutual decision for Ruggs and Ole Miss to part ways (via the Montgomery Advertiser):

“It was just time, so mutually it was best for him and for us just to part ways,” Luke said of Ruggs.

How much did Ruggs’ suspension have to do with this decision? Luke admits it may have played a part:

“I think any time that it doesn’t always go exactly like you want it to, there’s always that possibility,” Luke said. “Again, we wish Kevontae nothing but the best moving forward. I just think sometimes it’s time to move on and he thought it was best for him, so we support him 100 percent.”

Ruggs played in six games for the Rebels in 2018, recording 16 tackles.
