The LSU Tigers and athletic director Scott Woodward were apparently ready to spend mega-money to try and pry away Jimbo Fisher.

According to The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, Woodward was “prepared” to offer the Texas A&M coach an 8-year, $125 million deal to leave College Station and come to Baton Rouge.

Fisher, who was hired by Woodward at A&M, repeatedly said he was not going to leave the Aggies to become the LSU coach. It’s worth pointing out the language McMurphy uses would seem to imply talks with Fisher never got to the point of making an official offer, and perhaps only that it was discussed.

In any event, LSU landed a big fish all the same in Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly. His deal, according to reports, is worth $100 million over 10 years. USA Today’s Steve Berkowitz reported he’s the first-ever public-school coach with a 9-figure contract.
