Why Alabama needs to pay attention to Fresno State-Boise State game
Alabama fell to No. 5 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings after losing in the Iron Bowl on Saturday.
However, the Crimson Tide still have a chance to make the final four if some things go their way during championship weekend.
As you can see in the Twitter exchange below, The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel laid out a path for Alabama to make the Playoff if Oklahoma loses the Big 12 title game. However, in the exchange with the fan, he mentions that the Tide will have a rooting interest in the Mountain West title game, too:
It's freaking pathetic that the committee will value the Fresno St. win by Bama about as equal as Oklahoma's win over Oklahoma St. Freaking unreal … but you're right, that's what they are setting up…

Fresno State's still got to beat Boise a second time. At Boise. https://t.co/5mMjdWPIqy

The reason the Tide will be watching the MWC title game is because Fresno State is the No. 25 team in the latest rankings, giving Alabama an extra top-25 victory.
If the Bulldogs lose at Boise State on Saturday, though, they’ll fall out of the rankings and hurt Bama’s strength of schedule.
With an already-weak schedule, the Tide can’t afford that if they want to make the Playoff. Therefore, they’ll be rooting for the Bulldogs to pull off the upset on Saturday night.
